I believe that this letter will bring the LORD's blessings upon you. Agree with me that God's Spirit, health and finances will fall upon you and those you love. Let us know of additional prayer request. We will pray for you.
When men of early times were making agreements (covenants) they appeared before the elders. They spoke the terms of their contracts and a record was made of their transaction. Boaz followed this procedure when he married Ruth. (Ruth, Chapter 4). In our contemporary culture we follow the same procedure except we record our contracts at the court house and then publish them. No doubt man does this because God put it in his heart. It enables us to understand His covenants with us. With Him we have an agreement which is made and recorded in Heaven; one advertised by His word and our word. (See Revelation 12:10-11).
In God's agreement with us we give all we have to Him and He gives us the kingdom of God with power. Paul said to the Corinthians, "And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and power." (1 Cor. 2:4; also see 1 Cor. 4:19-20). Men of God continue to speak and God's power never fails. However, some people are lovers of self more than lovers of God. In their pride they will deny the power of God. Paul told Timothy to turn away from these people. (2 Tim. 3:1-5). This is good advice for us. These people can cause us to agree with their ungodly words. A tongue in opposition to God's thinking will separate us from God's blessings.
Jesus said, "... for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things; and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that man shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgement." (Matt. 12:35-36). Was this why Paul told Timothy to avoid foolish words and strifes? (2 Tim. 2:23). We all desire to receive a good report in the day of judgement but we are also interested in living an abundant life on earth. In order to have both we must think on good things and speak in the positive about all things. Otherwise we will speak destruction upon ourselves and upon other people.
In the book of Revelation we read about people who have the harps of God. They are actually in harmony with Him. (Rev. 15:2). It would be wonderful if we could all be in this accord. There is a way. We have an example. In order to prevent the children of Israel from losing their intended blessings God said, "... lay up my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes." (Deu. 11:18). Therefore, if we take a steady diet of God's word and not agree with the negative words of this world we will be blessed. Our tongue is like the bridle on a horse or the rudder of a ship. With it we set our course in life. (James, Chapter 3). We confess with our mouth that Jesus is LORD and in so doing we become sons of God. (Gal. 3:26). As sons of God we are admonished to be like minded one toward the other according to Christ Jesus. We do this as we saturate our person with God's word, not trying to figure it out but, by putting it in. This will change our very nature. It gives us a mind without confusion, fear and depression.
All throughout the Bible we find the importance of words. The worlds were formed by God's word. The seas were formed when He spoke. All life was placed upon the earth by His word. By God's word he made covenants. When prophets of God spoke there was consequence, Jesus was born according to their word. After the cross God continued to let us know how important words were. They are creative or they are destructive. With our tongue we bless or curse. We can praise God or praise men. With our tongue we pray to God or we can speak foolish words. Only God's word within us and the power of the Holy Spirit can temper our words.
The apostle James wrote, "... the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of inquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature (a period of time, probably one's time on earth); and it is set on fire of hell. ... But the tongue can no man tame. ... out of the same mouth proceedeth blessings and cursing. My brethering, these things ought not so to be." (James 3:1-10). What can one say? We must dine on God's word and yeild to the Holy Spirit. When we fail we can immediately ask God for forgiveness and get on with life. There is no other way!
Love in Christ,
