CAN GOD’S PEOPLE FALL INTO CONFUSION?

Today, I heard someone say that many preachers were not agreeing as they preach. This was followed by, "They confuse me!" Confusion does not come from God (I Cor. 14:33). It comes from the devil, and enters into the Church because men do not always hear from the Holy Spirit, and He is the only one who speaks God’s truth, doing this through people in submission to Him. In order to prevent confusion we must agree with the Lord by surrendering our thoughts and our ways to Him. God said through the prophet Isaiah, For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways... (Isaiah 55:8). This tells us that men relying on their own thoughts without conformation from the Holy Spirit can make many mistakes.

Misinterpretation of God’s Word is often compounded by years of misinterpretation, men repeating what they have heard from previous generations. I believe this can best be explained by an example taken from the Jewish world. In Judaism there is the written word, the Old Testament, and the oral word, that which is passed from one generation to the next and can be debated. In the Church we do not recognize these two, but appear to have them anyway. This is why it is important for every man to personally dine on God’s Word and ask the Holy Spirit to teach him or her the truth. Jesus said, But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name [the name of Jesus], he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said to you (John 14:26). After hearing this, John wrote, ... ye need not that man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie ... (I John 2:27).

There is only one truth and not many versions of truth as some suppose. In other words, truth follows one straight line of thoughts, and that is God’s thoughts. This allows us to see how and why people will get off base as they try to determine God’s Word without digesting the Word. Digesting the Word comes by hearing the Word and then letting the Holy Spirit reveal the truth of the Word. One can get off base when they accept something someone else has said and do not get it confirmed by the Holy Spirit in the mouth of two or more witnesses. They can also get off base when they get tired, get preoccupied with the things of the world and/or get out of the Word (not reading the Word frequently).

I have previously told how we are to be vessels of the Holy Spirit and by Him all men should hear the same thing. Now I write, we must not reject the gifts of the Holy Spirit, those written in I Corinthians, Chapter 12. Through these gifts we are able to hear the voice of God and perform that which He has called us to do. Everything else is man doing what he thinks God wishes him to do.

Last Friday, I made a trip to Pensacola, Florida, and visited the Brownsville Assembly of God. The well renowned revival, now four years old, is still in progress. Thousands are still being saved and Steve Hill is under a great anointing, preaching better than ever. I was able to stay Friday Night and Saturday with friends and was greatly blessed in their home. On Saturday morning, when I spoke about the future of this ministry, the Holy Spirit overshadowed me, and shook me so hard that I thought my teeth would fall out. On the following Monday, I went to Panama City to visit a man I have called my pastor for over twenty years. While at lunch, Nolen Ball left the table and came back with a message about the past and future of this ministry. Not knowing what the Lord had given to me in Pensacola, he told the same thing. This is what I have been writing about, hearing from God and getting His Word confirmed before acting on what you think you have heard. Later I will tell more about what the Lord has planed for K.O.J. and me. Then, you too can be blessed. In the meantime, please continue to support the ministry, both in prayer and finances.

By the way, while under the anointing in Pensacola, I prayed for my friend’s home to be sold. Within two hours a phone call came from someone in Mississippi. The people that called came immediately and bought the house. Isn’t God good?

Thank you for continuing to pray for me and the work God has called me to do.
